WP4 ensures that SYNTHIA is built on a solid foundation of high-quality, standardised, and ethically compliant real-world data. This team helps data providers obtain all necessary ethical and legal approvals—coordinating with WP8 on compliance—and supports them through practical tools like standardised protocol templates and expert guidance on GDPR and data protection. 

Once legal clearance is in place, clinical partners extract, harmonise, and prepare their datasets using the OMOP-CDM model. WP4 then applies robust data quality assurance methods, including statistical cleaning, imputation, and quality dashboards, to make sure that every dataset meets the rigorous standards required for synthetic data generation. Where necessary, the team extends OMOP to include complex data types such as genomics, imaging, and wearables. Through these efforts, WP4 transforms diverse hospital datasets into an interoperable and trustworthy data ecosystem—ready to fuel SYNTHIA’s innovation.
