SYNTHIA is co-organizing a session at the ICT&health World Conference 2026, the European and international platform for healthcare transformation, taking place on 27-29 January in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

The panel session is titled “Data for medical science in Europe: missing, siloed, or stuck on paper. Why AI, synthetic data, and a new culture of sharing are a golden opportunityand is scheduled for January 27, from 11.30-12.10 hrs.

Europe is home to world-class researchers and institutions, yet still faces persistent barriers in accessing critical health data, from electronic patient records and biobanks to registries and insurance claims. These datasets are vital for developing innovative therapies and life-saving medicines, but their potential remains largely untapped. With a population of 448 million, Europe holds an immense data resource that could drive the next generation of medical breakthroughs.

Now, emerging technologies such as AI, the use of synthetic data, and new European initiatives offer a realistic chance to unlock this potential within the next few years. This session will explore how science, policy, and technology can converge to turn Europe’s data challenge into one of its greatest biomedical assets.

SYNTHIA Partners presenting are:

  • Davide Cirillo, Barcelona Supercomputing Center
  • Leonor Cerda Alberich, IIS La Fe
  • Hongxu Yang, GE Healthcare
  • Saverio D’Amico, TRAIN

In addition Szymon Bielecki, Head of Sector, Research and Innovation, eHealth, Well-Being and Ageing Unit, DG CONNECT, European Commission, will participate in the panel. The session and discussion will be moderated by Artur Olesch, Digital Health Journalist.
