SYNTHIA will be showcased at the EAPM European Parliament event: “Every Second Counts: Modernizing Cancer Screening to Save Lives”.
This event is organised by SYNTHIA partner EAPM, the European Alliance for Personalised Medicine and will take place on 15 July 2025 at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.
Hosted by MEP Seán Kelly, the event will convene key EU policymakers, clinicians, researchers, patient advocates, and representatives from major EU4Health-funded initiatives.
Cancer is on track to become the leading cause of death in the EU by 2035. Despite a 10% reduction in overall cancer mortality between 2010 and 2020, major disparities in outcomes persist across and within Member States. Participation in population-based screening programmes remains suboptimal, and access to innovation is uneven. This challenge is addressed at the high-level EAPM European Parliament meeting. Expected outcomes include actionable policy recommendations for scaling early detection innovation, stronger alignment with Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and commitments to tackle inequalities in access and outcomes.
Speakers will include senior officials from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, leading Members of the European Parliament, and scientific experts from projects including PRAISE-U, SOLACE, BEACON, BRECISE, and SYNTHIA.
Ahmed Youssef, key expert from Johnson & Johnson Medical Innovations and SYNTHIA consortium partner, will be presenting.
The programme will also feature a multi-stakeholder panel discussion on integrating innovation into healthcare systems, with perspectives from regional health authorities, civil society, and the patient community.
