On 20–21 October 2026, SYNTHIA will be represented at the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) Forum 2026 in Brussels, Belgium, bringing together stakeholders from across the European health research and innovation ecosystem to explore how collaborative research can translate into long-term impact.
SYNTHIA Partner Ellen de Waal from MATICAL, lead of WP10 (Communication, Dissemination, Training and Policy), is attending, representing SYNTHIA and is looking forward to enage with the health research and innovation community during the event.
The teams of WP10 realized the strategic communication, dissemination, training, and policy engagement efforts within SYNTHIA. Its aim is to ensure visibility, foster stakeholder engagement, and support policy development that enables the responsible and innovative use of synthetic data. This WP coordinates the creation of a distinctive SYNTHIA identity and manages all internal and external communication activities, including the website, newsletters, social media, scientific events, and tailored content for various audiences. It engages with key stakeholders through medical associations, scientific groups, and other EU initiatives to maximise impact. In addition, WP10 also tackles public trust in synthetic data and explores policy models that address the governance of SD in public health. It will deliver key outputs such as a policy paper, a white paper on synthetic data policy in big data contexts, and a roadmap for integrating SD into prevention strategies.

SYNTHIA Partner Adrián Galiana Bordera from Health Research Institute Hospital La Fe is presenting a poster titled “SYNTHIA eCRF: Standardized Multimodal Data Platform with Agentic AI” during the event's dedicated poster session for early career researchers.
The poster showcases the development of the SYNTHIA electronic Case Report Form (eCRF), a platform designed to address challenges in collecting and standardizing multimodal health data across different clinical settings. By integrating clinical, imaging and genomic data into a common data model (OMOP-CDM), the platform aims to improve data interoperability while supporting secure, AI-driven research. Successfully deployed across SYNTHIA's six disease use cases, the platform brings together standardized clinical data capture, AI-assisted data mapping and interactive medical image analysis, with sensitive patient data remaining within hospital environments. This work represents an important step towards making diverse health data more accessible and usable for research and the development of AI healthcare applications.
Within SYNTHIA, Adrián contributes to WP4 (Data Collection and Management) and WP6 (Synthetic Data Generation Tools and Methods), supporting SYNTHIA's efforts to improve health data interoperability and advance synthetic data generation for healthcare research.

SYNTHIA: Pioneering Synthetic Data Innovation in Healthcare
Launched in September 2024 as the first Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) project dedicated to synthetic data, SYNTHIA brings together 39 partners from academia, healthcare, industry and other fields of expertise to explore how synthetic data can advance research and personalized medicine.
Synthetic data are artificially generated data that reflect the characteristics of real-world patient data, offering new opportunities for health research while addressing challenges related to data access, privacy and interoperability.
Through six clinical use cases spanning cancer, Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes, SYNTHIA is developing and validating methods and tools for generating high-quality, privacy-preserving synthetic health data. By bringing together clinical expertise, technological innovation and regulatory perspectives, the project aims to build trust in synthetic data and support their responsible use in healthcare research and AI development.
About IHI Forum 2026
Under the theme “Translating research into long-term impact,” the IHI Forum 2026 will explore how public-private partnerships can turn scientific advances into meaningful benefits for patients, healthcare systems, research and innovation. Through panel discussions, workshops, poster presentations and networking opportunities, participants will exchange perspectives on the challenges facing European health research and explore opportunities to strengthen collaboration across sectors.
For SYNTHIA, participation in the IHI Forum provides an opportunity to share concrete advances in health data standardization and AI integration, connect with other European research initiatives and contribute to discussions on how collaborative innovation can support the future of data-driven healthcare.
