On 11-13 November 2026, SYNTHIA will be represented at CASEIB 2026 (Annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Biomedical Engineering), contributing to discussions on the potential of artificial intelligence to support clinical research, improve healthcare data management and reduce the administrative burden on healthcare professionals.

SYNTHIA Partner Adrián Galiana Bordera from Health Research Institute Hospital La Fe (IIS La Fe) will present the work “From Narrative to Data: Reducing Clinical Burden via Agentic AI with Secure, Local LLMs for OMOP-CDM Standardization in the Hospital Environment” during the session “Foundational Models in Biomedical Applications” (Mi-S3.3-SE).

The presentation addresses a common challenge in oncology: much of the valuable clinical information is captured in unstructured medical reports, requiring clinicians to spend considerable time manually extracting and entering data into standardised systems.

Developed within the SYNTHIA and DETECT projects, the presented platform explores how locally deployed AI models can help address this challenge. By automatically extracting relevant information from clinical reports and proposing mappings to established healthcare data standards, including OMOP-CDM, the system aims to simplify data collection while maintaining patient privacy and keeping clinicians involved in validating the results.

About CASEIB 2026

The 44th Annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Biomedical Engineering (CASEIB 2026) will take place from 11–13 November 2026 in Valencia, Spain, hosted by the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).

Under the theme “Science, Technology, and Innovation to Transform Healthcare,” the congress will bring together researchers, academics, healthcare professionals and industry representatives to explore the latest developments in biomedical engineering and healthcare technologies. Through plenary lectures, thematic sessions, scientific presentations and networking opportunities, CASEIB 2026 aims to foster knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration and the translation of scientific innovation into healthcare practice.
