SYNTHIA is participating in Applied Machine Learning Days Intelligence Summit 2026, taking place from 10–13 February 2026 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

SYNTHIA partner Diego Valderrama, Fraunhofer, will present a poster titled “MultiNSDEs: Dose-Guided Neural SDEs for Simulating Real and Counterfactual Patient Trajectories”.

The poster will be presented on both 10 and 11 February, from 13:15 to 14:00, during the poster sessions.

More about Diego's work within SYNTHIA on Multi-modal Neural Stochastic Differential Equations for modeling patient trajectories and counterfactual simulations, presented at the IHI-SYNTHIA General Assembly 2025 in Budapest.

Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) remain the gold standard for drug approval, but they come with significant challenges: high costs, long timelines, ethical concerns, and recruitment difficulties — especially for rare or life-threatening diseases.

SYNTHIA teams tackle this by leveraging historical trial data to generate realistic synthetic control arms. MultiNSDEs combine multiple data modalities, clinical assessments, imaging markers, biomarkers, and demographics, into a shared latent space that evolves through Neural SDEs. This allows us to generatively model disease trajectories, capture inter-individual variability, and simulate counterfactual interventions. Early results are promising: MultiNSDEs can generate realistic synthetic control patients from historical RCTs and simulate counterfactual interventions.

About the Applied Machine Learning Days

Applied Machine Learning Days is one of Europe’s leading AI and machine learning summits, bringing together researchers, industry experts, startups, and policymakers to explore cutting-edge advances in applied ML. The event combines scientific sessions, industry tracks, and interactive poster presentations, providing a vibrant forum for exchanging ideas and showcasing impactful, real-world applications of machine learning across domains such as healthcare, engineering, and data science.

The AMLD Intelligence Summit is a flagship event where artificial intelligence meets human intelligence, showcasing breakthrough work at the frontier of science, technology, and society. From brain–spine interfaces enabling paralyzed patients to walk again, to robots navigating extreme alpine terrain, and AI systems redesigning drug discovery and clinical trials, the summit brings together the people building, funding, regulating, and critically examining AI today. Beyond headline keynotes, the programme dives into Europe’s AI infrastructure and sovereignty, applied AI in healthcare and robotics, and forward-looking discussions on work, democracy, safety, and regulation, combining high-impact talks with hands-on workshops and conversations that shape the future of AI.
