The SYNTHIA General Assembly will take place in Berlin, Germany on 22 and 23 September 2026 and will bring together our official consortium partners for dedicated sessions to connect, collaborate and exchange insights in the project's developments and discuss planned activities.

This years edition is hosted by SYNTHIA Partners Fraunhofer and Gates Ventures

Two days of collaboration, discussion and looking ahead

Across two days, SYNTHIA partners will come together for focused breakout sessions, expert perspectives and interactive plenary discussions to reflect on our progress, tackle key questions and jointly shape the next phase of the project.

Day 1 | Tuesday, 22 September 2026 

Morning

  • Dedicated breakout sessions across SYNTHIA Work Packages, providing time for focused discussions and collaboration.
  • Sessions will cover work across WP2, WP5, WP6, WP7 and WP10, including several joint WP discussions.

Afternoon

  • Welcome from our hosts Fraunhofer and Gates Ventures, followed by an inspirational keynote on transforming precision medicine through synthetic data and AI.
  • Use Case and industry breakout sessions, including discussions around Type 2 Diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, Multiple Myeloma, Lung Cancer and Breast Cancer.
  • The "Shaping Synthetic Data in SYNTHIA" plenary, exploring Health Technology Assessment and regulatory perspectives, the legal framework for synthetic data, and the evolving SYNTHIA Platform.
  • We will round off Day 1 with a group photo and working dinner

Day 2 | Wednesday, 23 September 2026 

Morning

  • "Trusting the Unreal: Building Confidence in Synthetic Data for AI in Medicine in Europe & Beyond" – bringing together perspectives from the European Commission, EMA and the pharmaceutical industry, followed by an interactive panel discussion.
  • "SYNTHIA Navigating the Course Ahead" – a plenary feedback session bringing together key learnings from the breakout sessions and addressing questions raised during the Virtual General Assembly.

Afternoon

  • Further open breakout sessions, with a focus on data provision and sustainability.
  • An Open Steering Committee to bring together decisions from the General Assembly, identify remaining gaps and agree on the way forward.
  • A closing outlook from SYNTHIA's project and industry leads, looking ahead to Years 3, 4 and 5 of the project.

Meet our invited speakers

We are pleased to welcome a distinguished group of invited speakers to the SYNTHIA General Assembly 2026, bringing perspectives from research, European policy, regulatory science and the pharmaceutical industry to our discussions on synthetic data and AI in healthcare.

The speakers will explore topics ranging from precision medicine and AI-driven health innovation to regulatory science and the responsible use of synthetic data in medicines R&D, bringing valuable external perspectives to SYNTHIA as we look towards the next phase of the project.

SYNTHIA is a multidisciplinary collaboration of 39 consortium partners - SDG developers, FAIR data experts, clinical researchers, developers of therapies and data-based tools, legal experts, socio-economic analysts, regulatory, policy advocacy, and communication experts - that will provide a 360º vision on how to advance healthcare applications through Synthetic Data use. We are set to revolutionize the field of personalized medicine by harnessing the power of synthetic data (SD). SYNTHIA focusses on 6 impactful diseases: Lung cancer, Breast cancer, Multiple Myeloma, Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, Alzheimers Disease, and Type 2 diabetes.
